Bayer Makrofol Fabrication

Printing:

Makrofol and Bayfol can be screen printed using acrylic and PVC-based inks.

Ink adhesion is excellent and no pre-treatment of the film is required. Because of the film’s high heat resistance, printing inks can be quickly dried at high temperatures.

Die-cutting:

Makrofol can be easily die-cut with a variety of steel rule dies. For the best overall results in terms of clean cuts, precision and die longevity, side-bevel rule is recommended. With this configuration, the long-bevel side should face the scrap material displacement rather than the short side bevel.

Thermoforming:

Makrofol can be thermoformed at a temperature of 190°C (374°F), with the mold temperature at 110°C (230°F). If the film is to be heated very rapidly, it should first be dried for 3 to 4 hours at 100°C (212°F).

Embossing:

Except for Makrofol LT and BL films, all Makrofol and Bayfol films are suitable for cold forming and offer dimensional stability at high service temperatures up to 130°C (266°F) for Makrofol and 100°C (212°F) for Bayfol films.

Bonding:

Substrates carrying printed information can be bonded using transfer adhesives, double-sided adhesive tapes, screen printed adhesives or two-component adhesives. For film-to-film bonding, solvents such as methylene chloride are normally used.

Welding:

Makrofol and Bayfol can be welded to certain other thermoplastics such as PC and ABS using ultrasonic methods.

Just a point to mention, there is a clear distinction between flame proof and flame retardant.  Flame proof relates to items that do not burn such as concrete, and steel etc.

Flame Retardant means that the product does not carry a flame. A sample definition is as follows:

“Flame Retardant. n. A substance that is applied to fabric, wood, or other material in order to make it resistant to catching fire. Also called fire retardantflame?-re·tar?dant adj.”

Sewing Fabric Tyvek Styles – Type 14 and Type 16 Guidance

Sewing Type 14 and Type 16 Tyvek®:

Sewing Fabric Tyvek is a great way of making protective sleeves and fashion garments, either from our standard white range or our metalized silver, pink or blue variants.

The guide below will help you set up your machines in order to get the best results for your application.

Instructions:

Use up to 12 stitches/inch (4.7 stitches/cm), however, 6-8 stitches/inch (2.4- 3.1 stitches/cm) provide the highest seam strength (greatest resistance to postage stamp tear).

Use a fine-tooth feed dog – 12 to 21 teeth/inch (4.7-8.3 teeth/cm)

Decrease presser-foot tension until the sheet just feeds through the machine without slipping. About 10 lb. (4.5 kg) force should be sufficient.

Decrease bobbin tension until the bobbin just slips down the thread: 3 oz. (85g)

Wind bobbin with thread tension set so that the thread just slips through the disc: 2 oz. (57g)

After setting bobbin tension, adjust the needle tension to produce a balanced stitch.

Conventional threads of cotton/synthetic or 100% polyester may be used. Spun-filament polyester is stronger than cotton thread and is preferred for flame resistant considerations.
